Character EducationAt A.W.R.,we show our PRIDE!PuttingRespect andResponsibilityInDailyEvents!
At AWR, we focus on behaviors that reinforce the importance of respect and responsibility. This year we are focusing on our District Wide Character Education initiative theme "Be Today's HERO: Helping Everyone Respect Others." Character Education is an integral part of our lives at AWR. From teachers to other staff, we model kindness in our daily lives and reinforce these lessons and teachable moments on how important being kind is in our school and in our community. Throughout the year, we will have lessons on good character, activities and Spirit/Character Education days. If you notice in the halls we have our goals posted and our school colors are everywhere as a reminder that we show our PRIDE in ourselves, in what we do and say everyday.
Every student at AWR is taught the 6 essential core lessons from the Bully Busting Curriculum by The New Jersey State Bar Foundation. The lessons focus on:
- Recognizing Bullying and Normal Conflict
- Recognizing Passive, Aggressive and Assertive Behavior
- Using "I" Messages
- Telling vs. Tattling
- Upstander Strategies
- Conflict Resolution Steps: "Win/Win Guidelines"
Our goal with Character Education
is to strive to be our very best at AWR
