Technology and Maintenance Collaboration helps the District Save MoneyOver the past 5 years the New Providence School District has enhanced the educational environment through technology upgrades throughout the district. These upgrades have included the purchase and installation of laptop computers, desktop computers, projectors, Smartboards, mounted speakers, wireless access points, laptop security lockers, whiteboards, audio & video cables, 18 miles of data cable, and additional electrical outlets in classrooms.Through a team approach, the Technology Department and Maintenance Department have gone from planning to completion. The district"s successful implementation of the following hardware was made possible by this team effort. The inventory includes 500+ desktop computers, 500+ laptops, 120 mounted SMARTboards, 137 mounted projectors, and 77 Wireless Access Points. The ability of key personal in the maintenance dept to participate in the planning & installation of equipment in the "Phase Initiative" has allowed the district to save money that many other districts pay to outside contractors. The estimated man hours over the past 5 years to do this work is 2000 hours at a cost savings of $200,000.Key personnel from the maintenance dept now help the technology dept maintain the projectors, SMARTboards and classroom sound systems.
