• "Listen, Lift, and Lead"

    Character education at NPHS supports the social, emotional and ethical development of students. District Staff, students and parents participate in activities outlined below to help all students develop important core values such as caring, honesty, diligence, fairness, fortitude, responsibility, grit, creativity, critical thinking and respect for self and others.

    Overview of programs include:

    • Week of Respect Kick off 
      Spirit Week - Spirit Week coincides with Anti-Bullying Awareness week 
      Monday - "Put bullying to sleep" (Pajama day)
      Tuesday - "Make America bully-free" (USA day)
      Wednesday - Way Back Wednesday  ( Decades day)
      Thursday” Scare away bullying” - (Halloween Costumes day)
      Friday - "Class Color" (Class colors day) 

    • Annual Pioneers 4 Lucas - Celebrates Lucas Reiling as an honorary captain/member during a varsity football game.

    • Fundraise for the Brooke Healey Foundation at a varsity football game. This foundation was created to build awareness and raise funds for research Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG); to help families dealing with pediatric cancers. 

    • Field Trip to UC Step (Youth Leadership Conference for Union County sophomores/juniors). 10 students from Character Education team attend to bring a county-wide community service project to NPHS. 

    • Annual Spread the Word to End the Word campaign. Students raise awareness and pledge within the community to spread the message and importance of inclusion. During half-time of a varsity basketball game members of the Shining Stars Ambassadors play a game. Students will also fundraise for a local charity.

    • Read Across America - students attend AWR and SB to work with elementary school students on their reading, and writing activities. 

    • Students bake desserts to donate to a local soup kitchen.

    • NPHS students attend Salt Brook field day to assist with students' games and aid stations.

    • Hillside Community Food Bank welcomes NPHS students to educate them on their mission and help organize, pack, and sort their overwhelming amount of donations.

    • Chorus Co-Op between NPHS Chorus and ECLC of Chatham chorus.

    • FCL students organize, attend, and run,  a field day for ECLC students.

    • Students organize a winter wear and coat drive for surrounding community members.

    • Personal and women hygiene products are collected by students to donate.

    • Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes are packaged for donation drop off at a local chapter.

    • Books are collected, and funds are raised to donate to troops overseas, local veterans, and senior centers through Operation Paperback.

    • An annual blood drive is held partnering with the Red Cross.

    • Link Up for Life - a county-wide project with a goal of bringing awareness to suicide prevention. Positive messages are shared, and distributed to students, along with fundraising and helping organize a 5k.

    • AWR Gives Back Day - NPHS students help educate and assist in packing lunches for their Bridges program.

    • Kindness Rocks- students decorate rocks to leave around the school courtyards and community for others to take.

    • Confetti Foundation receives decorations that NPHS students cut and string together. This foundation helps provide birthday party supplies for children living in hospitals.
