Highly Qualified TeachersThe New Providence School District takes pride in our longstanding commitment to hiring the most highly qualified teachers available to educate our students. The ongoing achievements of our students speak to the success of our efforts. In 2001 the No Child Left Behind Act established a legal definition of a Highly Qualified Teacher and required that all districts receiving federal funds advise parents of their right to inquire about the qualifications of their child"s teacher. The legal definition requires that teachers have a four-year college degree, a regular teaching license/certificate, and proof of their knowledge in the subject they teach. The state of New Jersey has always required a teaching certificate/license for all teachers. In New Providence, all of our regular teachers have college degrees, and many have advanced degrees. In addition, every teacher continues his or her own learning through professional development activities, and our teachers are evaluated each year to make sure that their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level. Our teachers are highly qualified not only according to the legal definition, but also according to the highest standards of their profession. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Office of the Superintendent, 908-464-9050.
