Welcome back to the 2011/2012 school year! I hope that over the past couple of weeks, your children have become acclimated to the expectations of their teachers, programs, and services. This year's opening was very smooth, and this could not have occurred without the efforts of our Board of Education, administration and staff. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for a job well-done. I also want to thank all of the parents for your efforts in preparing your children for the return to school. As I visited the schools during the first week, it was obvious that our students came back to school ready to embrace learning.
As we begin the new school year, I have exciting news to share with the community. I am pleased to announce that New Providence High School has earned the recognition of being named a NCLB Blue Ribbon School. This achievement is due to the ongoing high student achievement that has taken place at the high school during the NCLB era.
In addition, the School District received an additional variety of academic, athletic and character education awards that are detailed in the links below.
As a reminder, the district will be publishing a monthly Our Schools E-newsletter. Please make sure that you are registered in Schoolwires to receive your monthly edition, and I would ask that you encourage friends and family to subscribe to receive the newsletter as well. Interested parties can subscribe to receive our newsletter on our district website.
I would like to remind you to review the district calendar and school dismissal policies to ensure that you have made arrangements for your children. A copy of the school calendar and dismissal policy was provided to you in your children's school based opening packets. You may also access this information on the district website at https://www.npsd.k12.nj.us/.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and I wish our students and staff the very best in the 2011/2012 school year.Sincerely,David M. Miceli, Ed.D.Superintendent of Schools
