AWR recently held its first PRIDE Days, as part of their Character Education program that focuses on teamwork, respect and responsibility. Each class was paired with a “buddy class” with 1st grades paired with 4th grades, 2nd grades paired with 5th grades and 3rd grades paired with 6th grades. Kindergarten and Pre-K classes also worked together. Prior to PRIDE Day, buddy classes met to discuss, role play, and plan what good teamwork looked like.
The band performed in a variety of United States Scholastic Band Association regional competitions this month including at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford and Somerville High School. Their efforts produced a variety of awards.
Fifth graders at Salt Brook school recently "walked" a simulated predetermined route from Town Hall in New Providence to Independence Hall in Philadelphia and completed a variety of mathematical computations along the way as part of Disabilities Awareness Month.
Teachers at the elementary schools are continuing to develop and enhance lessons through the use of technology. This trend has been building for several years, starting with the use of laptops, educational software, and SMART boards and now entering a new phase that incorporates tablets and an increased focus on content creation.
