Character Trait
The main character, Boris, of The Escape by J.B. Stamper is courageous. In the text it says, “Boris opened his mouth to scream. But he knew he had to be quiet. He dug a fist into his mouth. He made himself move forward in the tunnel” (Stamper 28). This piece of evidence shows he is courageous because despite being afraid of the rats that were crawling at his legs, he chose to keep moving forward with the escape plan. It also states in the text, “The walls were of old, rough stone. To Boris, it felt as if they were closing in on him” (Stamper 27). This quote shows he is courageous because even though Boris is uncomfortable with small spaces, he chose to pursue an escape through the narrow tunnel he found behind the large stone of his prison cell wall. In conclusion, Boris was a brave person because despite his phobias of rats and small spaces, he tried to escape to freedom.
