Peer Leader Fundraise for ACS
The New Providence Peer Leaders are a group of 8th grade students led by Scott Murphy and James Finley that work to develop leadership skills by advocating for positive social change in their school and local community. Each year the Peer Leaders participate in Relay for Life, which is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society hosted at Governor Livingston HS. This year the Peer Leaders organized two very successful events to raise money for this event.
The first event that the students organized was a Girls Night Out event at Allen W. Roberts. Elementary school girls from all over the district gathered for a night of makeovers, hairdos, music, and dancing. Fifteen peer leader girls volunteered numerous hours planning, organizing, and carrying out a very successful event. The result of their hard work was raising nearly $900 for Relay for Life.
The second event organized was a lacrosse tournament held at New Providence high school. Girls and guys from the middle school gathered to be crowned as the king or queen of lacrosse.
As a result of generous donations from several local sports businesses, winners also received cool lax gear and store credit as prizes. The event raised nearly $600 for Relay for Life.
