New Providence Education Foundation Enters its Eighth Fundraising YearFormed in 2004, the New Providence Education Foundation has awarded New Providence schools over 130 grants, totaling close to $375,000. The Foundation consists of a variety of community members, a board member and school administrator who raises money each year by contacting every household in New Providence, organizing an annual Casino Royale fundraiser in November and engaging in a variety of smaller events throughout the year.Last year 21 grants were awarded, including grants to every school in the district. The grants addressed a variety of subject areas from Drama and Television production to Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math and many exciting new projects. For example Classroom Listening Centers, were provided for Allen W. Roberts. The centers enabled the young students to develop a love for books, an important starting point in building a solid reading foundation and were a wonderful addition to the classroom literacy program. According to teacher Deena Malanga, "The children love having the Listening Center as one of their classroom center choices, they use the centers every day. Thanks so much for supporting my grant". The photos below show the students learning using the Listening Centers.
