The Seeing Eye Visits NPMSMike Karnish a former NPMS faculty member, recently hosted a Seeing Eye assembly for 7th graders at NPMS. The assembly included Marilyn Rodda and her Seeing Eye in-training dog, Issy, and a retired Seeing Eye dog, George. The assembly was organized to coincide with the seventh grade science unit on genetics. Mr. Karnish discussed how both genotypes and phenotypes are used in the breeding of human guide dogs and provided real world examples of the concepts and terminology students have been exploring in class. Ms. Rodda discussed her experiences as a blind person and her relationship with her Seeing Eye dog while also actively encouraging students to become more involved in community service with the Seeing Eye program. The assembly was very well received by students, teachers and administrators.
