Mix-It-Up PRIDE Buddy LunchThe AWR PRIDE “Mix-It-Up” lunch was a special opportunity for students to continue building a caring community at AWR. This was a special lunch that had an AWR twist. The AWR students were again paired with their buddy classes, mixing younger and older students together. The buddy classes worked together to talk about proper manners, especially at a dining table. The students then ate at the “Mix-It-Up” lunch with their buddies. Buddy classes then participated in recess activities with each other.
After the event a buddy team was asked what they liked about the lunch. A fifth grade student stated, “I liked the tablemat that my two buddies made for me with good tips on manners.” She also liked using the “Manners Matter” card provided at the lunch table that had good conversation starters. She said, “It was fun. I felt like they were my little sisters, and I got to know my buddies better.” Her second grade buddies stated, “We liked practicing manners with our buddy, like using polite words, and it was great to get to see our buddy again.” There were warm smiles on the faces of the students as they connected once again with their buddies, chatting and eating together.
