2nd Grade:
Reading over the summer is SO IMPORTANT! You all worked so hard this year and we want to keep up that hard work to be ready for 3rd grade! Here are some ideas for how to continue to grow as a reader and writer over the summer:
* READ, READ, READ! Read everyday, across multiple genres!
* Think, talk, and write about the books you read (I provided you with some tools below to help you)
* Review your 2nd grade sight words: 2nd Grade Sight Words
* Review some of the word study patterns you learned (FSZL, -tch/-ch, -dge/-ge, "doubling rule", e-drop, vowel teams).
* Play one of our games! - Roll & Read /ir/ spelled ir, er, and ur, Spelling Power, Roll A Sight Word, Roll & Read - igh/ie/y, Roll & Read - Vowel Teams, and Sight Word Board Game.
* Listen to one of my read alouds, visit Storyline online, and ask a family member to read outloud to you!
* Read E-Books: You still have access to RAZ kids and Learning Ally!
* Continue with Lexia
* Complete this summer reading challenge: Summer Reading Challenge!
* Keep a journal
* HAVE FUN!
Here are some tools to help you as you think, talk, and write about books. Remember, you should be stopping and thinking before, during, and after reading (not only after!)
Roll & Chat - Use this to talk about fiction books!
Nonfiction talking prompts - Use this to talk about nonfiction books!
Reading Response Menu - Use this to write a reading response!
...following these suggestions can help to prevent the "summer slide!"
