Summer Reading

Incoming 1st- 4th Graders

Dear Families,

Happy summer! Students have worked hard all year to grow as learners and summer is a great time to reinforce those skills.  All students should read on a daily basis throughout the summer. In addition to favorite books and the New Providence Library, please use the resources linked here to read online and practice foundational skills:

Summer Assignments for Incoming 5th & 6th Graders

Dear Incoming 5th and 6th Graders,

Reading as many as 6 books in the summer can keep you on track and help you prepare for September. Therefore, we require that all incoming 5th and 6th grade students read a minimum of two books of their choice during the summer. This reading should be enjoyable and should consist of books on your level. When deciding what to read, consider various genres, including nonfiction and magazine articles. Visit the public library, talk to your friends to ask for suggestions, and visit the Leveled Book Lists section of the district website. When you return to school in September, you will be asked to share two of the books you read through a simple project or discussion.

Sincerely,

5th and 6th Grade Teachers
